Adelaide United is enhancing its focus on youth development with the launch of a new High Performance Program for children aged seven to 13.
The program will run alongside the current Junior Development Program (JDP), which helps foster the development and growth of young players in a fun, inclusive and safe environment.
Under the leadership of the club’s Head of Junior Development, Marcelo Carrusca, the new High Performance Program (HPP) will offer extra training twice per week with the club’s experienced junior coaches, focussing on both technical skills and overall player development.
Specialised goalkeeper training will also be offered.
The HPP has been created to complement the training commitments players have at local South Australian clubs, focussing on the decision-making process to cultivate smart, confident, and independent footballers.
Participants will train throughout the year with 16 sessions per school term and have the opportunity to play friendly games and in national and international tournaments.
Other benefits including participants receiving tickets to Adelaide United matches and gameday experiences, as well as a chance to train with Adelaide United senior players.
“We are really excited about our new High Performance Program,” said Carrusca.
“While our Junior Development Program is a skills-based initiative for children of all abilities, the High Performance Program is designed for players with advanced technical skills, and it runs year-round.
“With two-trainings per week, this program has a player-centred coaching approach, prioritising individual development to push the boundaries of a player’s potential.
“Our aim is to elevate a player’s game and improve their skills, confidence and understanding of football in a fun and safe environment.”
It should also be noted that the HPP is not replacing the Football SA NTC program. That will remain the elite football pathway in this state. The HPP is simply a way to help young players become better, more rounded individuals on and off the pitch.
Players must register for the JDP to be eligible to trial for the HPP, with information about two trial dates at Coopers Stadium in January to be available soon.
Players will be split into their respective age groups (U8, U10, U12, U14).
