Adelaide United condemned Canberra United to their first defeat of the Ninja A-League season as the Reds ended a drought against the capital club courtesy of a 2-0 triumph.
Emily Condon and Fiona Worts were on target for Adelaide, who defeated Canberra for the first time since January 2022.
Worts scored in that 3-1 win over Canberra two years ago before going on to win the 2021-22 Julie Dolan Medal and Golden Boot, and the Englishwoman continued her resurgence on Saturday.
After Condon’s 11th-minute opener at McKellar Park, Worts – who returned to Adelaide this season – struck 10 minutes prior to half-time, taking her tally to four goals in three matches.
Adelaide have six points from three rounds, while Canberra saw their 100% record ruined by the Reds.
Canberra entered the clash having started their season with back-to-back wins but the capital club were silenced in the 11th minute.
Adelaide star Condon got to the ball first and fired her shot beyond Canberra goalkeeper Sally James.
It got better for Adelaide 10 minutes before the interval at McKellar Park.
Some nice build-up player from Adelaide and a great run from Emily Hodgson – who rounded her opponent – picked out Worts and the Englishwoman directed her shot past James.
CommBank Matildas star Michelle Heyman nearly pulled a goal back two minutes later but her half-volley bounced just wide of the post.
Worts got in behind Canberra’s defence in the 57th minute, and James had to be at her best to keep out the former Sydney FC forward.
Adelaide United will be looking for three consecutive away wins, when they face Wellington Phoenix in at Leichhardt Oval in Sydney for Unite Round on Friday 22 November.
