Adelaide United and AMES Australia partnership brought to life through week of community activations

Adelaide United’s partnership with AMES Australia was brought to life in March a series of meaningful activations focused on inclusion, connection and community.

A key moment was the Adelaide United x AMES Australia Partnership Iftar Dinner, held at Club United at Hindmarsh Stadium on Tuesday, 3 March. The event marked the formal commencement of the partnership and brought together government representatives, community leaders, local community members and partners for a shared meal in recognition of Ramadan. South Australian Premier Peter Malinauskas was among the guests in attendance and addressed the room, highlighting the significance of the partnership and the shared commitment to inclusion, connection and supporting newly arrived communities across the state.

That sense of connection continued on matchday ahead of Adelaide United’s home fixture against Wellington Phoenix, when the Club hosted a citizenship ceremony in the Reds Lounge. The Department of Home Affairs invited 27 people to receive their Australian citizenship, with Steve Georganas presiding over the ceremony. The occasion added further significance to a week centred on belonging, welcome and community.

AMES clients were also involved in the matchday experience, participating as mascots, ball crew and halftime game activities, helping ensure the partnership was visible not only through formal events, but also as part of the Club’s broader community engagement.

Adelaide United Community Programs Manager Ruben Garcia Byrne said the partnership is focused on creating genuine and lasting opportunities for families.

“Through our partnership with AMES Australia, we’re committed to creating genuine opportunities for newly arrived families to feel connected, supported and part of the community,” Garcia Byrne said.

“Whether through football programs, matchday experiences or broader community engagement, we’re proud to help remove barriers to participation and create an environment where AMES clients can truly feel a sense of belonging.”

The events reflected the values at the heart of the Adelaide United and AMES Australia partnership, and the role football can play in helping people feel welcomed, supported and connected within the broader community.
