Adelaide United appoints Maruschka Waldus as first full-time Women’s Assistant Coach

Adelaide United is delighted to announce the historic appointment of Maruschka Waldus as the Club’s first ever full-time Women’s Assistant Coach.

Waldus, 32, returns to the Reds after an outstanding playing career that included 49 appearances and three goals in Adelaide colours between 2020 and 2023, claiming the prestigious Dianne Alagich Medal in her debut season.

Following her time in Adelaide, Waldus captained Feyenoord in the Eredivisie Vrouwen, playing 22 matches and scoring twice in her final professional season. Her career also featured stints with FC Twente, PSV Eindhoven, Western Sydney Wanderers, and as vice-captain of Vålerenga, where she helped the Norwegian club secure a historic league and cup double in 2020.

Alongside her achievements on the pitch, Waldus has invested in her coaching development, earning her UEFA B Licence in 2020 and serving as Video Analyst for the Netherlands U-20 side at the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Costa Rica.

Adelaide United’s Head of Football, Marius Zanin, said the appointment reflects both the Club’s ambition and commitment to professionalising the women’s program.

“This is a significant statement by our Club to welcome back a true Adelaide United legend as our first full-time Women’s Assistant Coach. Maruschka’s appointment is not only an investment into our football program but also vital support for Theo as Head Coach.”

“We welcome her back with open arms – she brings invaluable knowledge, experience, and leadership, and we’re excited to help her grow her coaching career with us.”

Waldus expressed her excitement to return to Adelaide United in a new capacity.

“Adelaide has always been a special place for me, and I feel very grateful to be returning in this new role,” Waldus said.

“I built so many meaningful relationships here as a player, and I’m looking forward to giving back to the Club in a different way.

“I can’t wait to work alongside Theo and the team, share my experience, and continue learning as I grow in my coaching career.”

The appointment marks another major milestone for Adelaide United as the Club continues to invest in building a sustainable, professional, and successful women’s football program.

Waldus’ arrival completes Adelaide United’s Ninja A-League Women’s Coaching Team following the appointment of Theo Tsiounis as Head Coach alongside Tiarn Powell as Assistant Coach and Rian del Nido as Goalkeeping and Defence Coach.
