Adelaide United break drought in emphatic fashion

Plenty of heat and plenty of goals as Adelaide United break their goal drought and earn their first win in four matches.

As they did last week, Adelaide United started on the front foot. Though today against Western Sydney they were able to find a breakthrough in hot conditions at Coopers Stadium.

Defender Emily Hodgson opened the scoring just before the first drinks break with her first goal of the season, getting herself on the end of Adriana Taranto’s low, driven cutback from the right.

They didn’t have to wait long for their second goal of the afternoon, midfielder Paige Zois spectacularly looping her shot in from range. There was one more goal in the first half, this time through some tricky dribbling and a tidy finish from American-Irish striker Erin Healy.

Half time substitute Allyssa Ng-Saad pulled one back for the Wanderers just minutes after coming on, catching Adelaide keeper Ilona Melegh off her line.

Adelaide United Striker Chelsie Dawber scored her first of the season just before the second drinks break, hitting her first time shot from the edge of the box.

Matilda Chloe Berryhill scored her first goal since signing for the Wanderers to make it 4-2, turning in Danika Matos’ low cross from the right.

Erin Healy completed the goal fest, nodding home Paige Zois’s in swinging free kick from the left.
