Adelaide United is delighted to announce the signing of talented 20-year-old English midfielder Abby Clarke on a one-year contract.
Clarke joins the Reds following her time at Burnley Women and Everton in the Women’s Super League (WSL), bringing with her a wealth of experience and potential.
Born in the United Kingdom, Clarke began her football journey with Everton at the tender age of nine, progressing through the club’s ranks to sign her first professional contract in 2023. Her time with Everton saw her make her senior debut in a Continental Tyres League Cup clash against Durham in December 2022, followed by a league debut against Manchester City six months later.
Last season, Clarke fulfilled a lifelong dream by joining Burnley Women, where she continued to develop her skills before making the move to Adelaide United.
Known for her ability to break lines and create opportunities in the final third, Clarke’s work ethic and ambition have marked her as a player with a bright future in the game.
Her versatility and creativity on the pitch make her a significant addition to Adelaide United’s midfield.
Abby Clarke expressed her excitement about joining Adelaide United and embracing a new challenge in her career.
“I am absolutely delighted to be joining Adelaide. Adelaide stood out to me massively with the persistent opportunity they give to young players to compete and perform at the highest level.”
“I’ve heard so many great things about the club. I am incredibly grateful for this opportunity. I can’t wait to continue my development here and contribute to future success. I am hungry to develop as a player and person. See you all soon!”
Adelaide United’s Head of Football, Marius Zanin, highlighted Clarke’s experience in England and her alignment with the Club’s values.
“Abby’s experience in England’s top leagues will be a vital addition to our team. At just 20 years old, she’s already shown she has the temperament and character to perform at a high level.
“Her age is a perfect fit for our Club as we continue to give young players the platform to perform and develop. We’re thrilled to have Abby on board and look forward to seeing her growth with us,” Zanin said.
Clarke’s signing reinforces Adelaide United’s commitment to developing young talent and building a team capable of competing at the highest levels. The Club is confident that Clarke will make a significant impact in the upcoming season and beyond.
