Airton Andrioli provides pre-season update ahead of NPL All Stars clash

Adelaide United Men’s Head Coach Airton Andrioli has provided a pre-season update following the arrival of Brazilian midfielder Anselmo, the announcement of Juan Muñiz, and a strong training block that included matches in Melbourne.

Speaking to the media, Andrioli shared his thoughts on new arrivals, preparations for the upcoming NPL All Stars match, and the opportunities created for emerging Reds players.

Andrioli on welcoming Anselmo to Adelaide United…
“It’s good to have somebody that we have something in common, so far away from Brazil. We were very pleased to finally see him here after a long negotiation. He’s done a little bit of training this morning, and I’m excited to see him on the field.”

On Anselmo’s playing style and experience…
“We analysed him closely and believe his qualities suit Australian football. He’s strong, good on the ball, and has a real presence. Importantly, he brings valuable experience for our young players. We want to build him up slowly and make sure he’s at his best condition to play.”

On managing his integration into the squad…
“We won’t put a timeline on it. He has a lot of experience and can use that to manage any lack of fitness, but we’ll be patient. The key is making sure he adapts to the way we want to play so he can perform at his best.”

On the importance of hard work and team spirit…
“In football nowadays, you can’t hide if you’re not prepared to work. It’s about embracing team spirit, getting out of your comfort zone, and combining that with technical and tactical ability. That’s the recipe for success.”

On pre-season progress so far…
“Going to Melbourne last week was very important. We faced quality opposition, which gave us a lot of positives to build on. Pre-season is going well. We’ve got three more matches – against the NPL All Stars, MetroStars, and Melbourne Victory – to get our group to the right level before Round 1.”

On facing the NPL All Stars this weekend…
“It’s really important. We rely a lot on local football, and the NPL clubs in our state play a huge role in developing young players. Congratulations to the All Stars selected – it will be a great opportunity for them and part of our preparation as well.”

On losing four players to the U20 World Cup in Chile…
“We’re a victim of our own success, because it’s a great reward for the boys to represent their country. It also creates opportunities for other players in the squad. For us, age doesn’t matter — if you’re ready, you’ll get your chance.”

On the signing of Juan Muñiz…
“He’s a player we’ve been monitoring for quite a while. Juan has attributes that can really impact a game, and we’re excited to have him. Now we’re close to finalising the group, everyone’s on the same page, and that gives us consistency heading into the season.”

On the possibility of further signings…
“The doors are not closed, but we’ll be wise with our decisions. We’ll only bring in players who specifically complement what we need. There’s still a small window for opportunities, and we’ll keep looking.”
