For the first time in its history, Adelaide United face Adelaide City in a competitive match on Wednesday night with the Australia Cup the backdrop for the inaugural meeting.
ServiceFM Stadium, Gepps Cross, is the venue for the highly anticipated cup clash with a spot in the Quarter Finals on the line.
The Reds reached the last 16 for a seventh time following a strong 2-0 away win over Newcastle Jets as George Blackwood and Hiroshi Ibusuki found the back of the net, the latter occurring via a spectacular bicycle goal.
Meanwhile, City progressed past Logan Lightning 1-0 in the Round of 32. The Black and Whites have been the most consistent side all season in the local NPLSA, winning their 18th Federation Cup last month with a 5-0 win over Modbury Jets.
More silverware followed the reigning NPLSA champions, clinching the minor premiership on the final day of the NPLSA campaign, thanks to a 6-0 triumph over 10-man Adelaide Olympic.
This will be the second time United has played South Australian opposition in the Australia Cup, after beating Adelaide Olympic in a Round of 16 match last year.
Team news
Carl Veart is expected to name a similar squad to the one that defeated the Jets with Javi López, Juande, and Ben Halloran available for selection. However, Craig Goodwin has been ruled out for the clash.
