Adelaide United is thrilled to announce that Cardijn College becomes the third school to sign on to our Academy School Program for 2025, joining the likes of Woodville High and St Paul’s College on this exciting football journey.
Cardijn is a modern college with its vibrant community spanning across three campuses in Adelaide’s south. Boasting over 2000 students, Cardijn offers its student the opportunity to join its extensive football program. Showcased by its football development squad, the program was established to assist students to achieve the highest level of performance in football, whilst improving their emotional and social health and wellbeing, integrating the learnings from high level sport into student’s academic journeys.
The partnership sees Adelaide United provide mentorship across the year to the footballing department at Cardijn College with the aim to further development interest and participation in football amongst students through presentations from football department staff and players, whilst accessing Adelaide United’s considerable range of high performance and coaching resources.
‘A key aspect of our Cardijn culture is ‘aspiration’ and to work in partnership with our community to encourage, enable and support our students to strive to achieve their dreams. Working with Adelaide United fits in perfectly with this!’ noted Steve Byrne, Principal of Cardijn College.

The College has already reaped international benefits from the Program, having been exposed to the unique football experience and knowledge from a recent visit early in Term One from Dutch football giants, PSV Eindhoven. Students were able to learn more about the workings of an international sporting organisation both on an academy and senior team level with future opportunities including coaching education and trips to train at PSV Campus De Herdgang also on the agenda.
Adelaide United’s Community Programs Manager, Ruben Garcia Byrne, spoke highly of the Academy School Program as a fantastic opportunity for schools to expand their football initiatives across the entire age and skill spectrum.

“This partnership is an exciting chance for schools to build a stronger connection with the Club and its resources, and our collaboration with Cardijn College further underscores our commitment to mentoring exceptional footballers but also leveraging the same mentality and core values seen in sport to grow well-rounded individuals who contribute positively toward the success and standards of their school, local communities, and beyond.”
We’re excited to welcome Cardijn College into the Program and look forward to fostering a meaningful and long-lasting relationship with their schooling community in 2025.
