Alex Chidiac is delighted to have re-signed with Adelaide United Women and is adamant success is not too far away following a promising end to last season.

Chidiac returns to the Reds on a one-year contract for the upcoming Westfield W-League 2017/18 season.

The midfielder was a revelation during the 2016/17 campaign which culminated in her claiming the Club’s W-League Rising Star Award.

Speaking at the SA Power Networks Head Office in Keswick, Chidiac said she is excited to remain in Adelaide and was encouraged by the strong finish to last campaign.

“I think our success at the end of last season really drew me back to come back this season,” Chidiac said.

“I think we have a bit of unfinished business so I want to stamp Adelaide United’s authority on the W-League.”

The 18-year-old also said the fact that she is from Adelaide was another reason behind renewing her contract with the Reds.

“I guess United is the team I grew up supporting and my family supported them,” she said.

“So it’s the feeling of home and being around family members as well and a lot of pride.”

Chidiac also praised the quality of the competition and stated the league is improving every year.

“I think each season I’m getting better and learning more and more,” she explained.

“And the players that are getting attracted from overseas as well, it’s really great to see.

“But for young players it’s really good like me as well I’m still learning and really excited to be back in the league.”

Chidiac, who has been capped four times by the Matildas, believes strong performances with the Reds will not only keep her in the Australia squad, but potentially push for a place in the starting line-up.

“I’m hoping to that’s my aim to try and get back into that squad,” she said.

“Hopefully work my way into a starting spot, but I’m just really focusing on this season and hopefully I can bring some success to Adelaide United.”

AUFC Women have never qualified for a Westfield W-League finals series and Chidiac is confident this is the year where that will change.

“For Adelaide United I want to make the finals series for the first time.

“It’s been a long time coming for us… But I honestly think this is the season.

“I know we say it every other season, but this is the one to watch out for.”
