Clough Praises Reds’ Resilience After Thrilling Comeback Against Brisbane Roar

Adelaide United showed their fighting spirit in a thrilling Unite Round encounter, coming from behind twice to secure a 3-2 win over Brisbane Roar in Sydney. The Reds turned the game around after a lacklustre first half, with Zach Clough leading the charge, scoring less than a minute into the second half to spark the comeback.

Reflecting on the game, Clough admitted that the team took a while to find their rhythm.

“We were a little bit flat in the first half. It took us some time to get going,” Clough acknowledged. “But sometimes that’s how it goes in games. We were down 2-1 at halftime, and when you’re losing, it can be tough. But we came through it, and three points is brilliant to move on with.”

The match certainly had two distinct halves. After trailing 2-1 at the break, the Reds regrouped, and Clough emphasized the importance of the message they received at halftime.

“Carl asked us, ‘What kind of team do we want to be?’ Do we want to be the team that falls apart when things aren’t going well? Or do we want to be the team that changes the game at halftime?” Clough explained. “I think we showed that in the second half. We came out strong, scored early, and played the way we know we can. Now it’s about staying consistent, improving, and staying focused for next week.”

Clough’s quick goal after the restart set the tone for Adelaide, and Archie Goodwin’s first competitive goal for the Club in the 62nd minute secured all three points for the Reds. The victory showcased the team’s resilience, something they’ll need to carry forward as they continue their campaign.

The Reds will look to build on this performance as they prepare for their next challenge as they welcome Perth Glory to Coopers Stadium next Friday night. Click here to buy tickets.
