The Lady Reds will be hoping their first home game at Burton Football Complex will also bring about their first win of the campaign when they host Brisbane Roar on Saturday.
Adelaide United fell agonisingly short against Perth last week, losing 2-1 after a spirited second half display saw the Lady Reds pepper the Glory-s goal in search of an equaliser – even striking the cross bar late in the match.
Coach David Edmondson said while breaking the drought is the ultimate objective, he admitted striving to improve each week remains the key focus for the Lady Reds.
“This is such a short season and such a competitive league that every game is going to be difficult,” Edmondson said.
“And getting hung up on getting the ‘breakthrough win- is just going to make achieving it even harder.”
“It was our goal at the start of the year to improve every time we go out on the field and that hasn-t changed. If we can keep working hard both physically and mentally and keep improving the results will come.”
Edmondson said the second half attacking forays and combinations in the front third against Glory highlight the Lady Reds- potential.
But he admitted that while the performance against Glory was pleasing, the two goals United conceded were disappointing.
Edmondson acknowledged that it may have been a match that got away from the Lady Reds with lady luck proving to be against United.
“After such a quick opening goal and such a positive start, to not consolidate the early lead and not make our dominance count certainly makes it feel like the one that got away,” he said.
“But again there were positives, in the number of chances we created and the fact that we dominated possession during the game.”
“Aspects of the performance were pleasing – some of the combinations in the attacking third that led to the chances created were pleasing and some individual performances were pleasing, but to concede two goals the way we did was disappointing and has been worked on in training this week.”
