Jordan Elsey believes the Reds can take plenty of confidence from their impermeable defensive record heading into a second straight FFA Cup Final.

Adelaide United have notched four clean sheets on route to this season’s decider, becoming the first-ever side to achieve such a feat, and Elsey is optimistic that can continue.

The defender steered home Adelaide’s second in the 2-0 Semi-final win over Bentleigh Greens on Friday night, and performed his trademark ‘emu’ celebration.

While Elsey was happy to get on the scoresheet, the centre-back admitted he relishes clean sheets more as a defender.

“More importantly for me the clean sheet is more important than scoring,” Elsey told Fox Sports.

“We work tirelessly hard at training to make sure this doesn’t happen.

“And we’re going into the final very confident having not conceding a goal.”

There were a few nervy moments, however, for Marco Kurz’s men and the 24-year-old stated he expected the hosts to be revved up from the whistle.

“We knew they would come out strong, obviously the home crowd and they did, they created chances and we were on the back foot for the first twenty (minutes),” he said.

“It was a very open game and if we took our chances in the first-half it would’ve been a different game and obviously very happy to get the win.”

The Reds will face the winner of Sydney FC and Western Sydney Wanderers in tomorrow night’s other Semi-final, with the draw to reveal the host of the title decider occurring after the game, live and exclusive on Fox Sports, Channel 503.
