Adelaide United Technical Director, Ernest Faber, has opened up in an honest and wide-ranging interview, addressing key questions and shedding light on the Club’s direction heading into the new season.
In the 20-minute sit-down, Faber outlines the need for balance — reaffirming the Club’s long-term commitment to youth development, while also confirming that 3 to 4 experienced players will be recruited during the off-season to guide the team’s next generation.
“In every line, we need an experienced player,” Faber said.
“A goalkeeper, defender, midfielder and attacker — that’s the ideal. These players bring leadership, mentoring, and help lift the standards around them.”
With several senior players departed this offseason, Faber acknowledged the importance of getting the right blend of character, culture, and quality in any new additions.
He also detailed his strong relationship with new Head Coach, Airton Andrioli, and Club Owner, Cor Adriaanse, describing a united vision for sustainable success built around process, professionalism, and people.
Despite the financial pressures across the A-League, Faber remained optimistic about the future, noting that smart recruitment and hard work behind the scenes are allowing the Reds to remain competitive.
“We always want to win, but it’s about doing things the right way. We have a unique youth development system in this country — now it’s about giving those players the best environment to grow.”
That growth includes significant upgrades to the Playford training base, which are expected to begin soon. The improvements will see both the A-League Men’s and Women’s programs united under one roof, with better facilities and more full-time staff to support performance.
