Adelaide United Captain, Craig Goodwin, spoke to media on Wednesday afternoon at Coopers Stadium, ahead of the Reds’ trip to Victoria this weekend.

With the first iteration of the A-Leagues Pride Cup between United and Melbourne Victory taking place on Sunday, 26 February, Goodwin was alongside fellow Captain, Isabel Hodgson, to look ahead to the games.

A-Leagues Pride Cup:
“This week for us is the Pride Celebration and it’s obviously something that we started last year.

“I think it’s a great initiative from the Club and from the league as well, signing the deal with Melbourne Victory to have this round for the next four years.

“Hopefully it raises more awareness and more knowledge about the LGBTI+ community.

“The biggest thing for us here at Adelaide is trying to create an inclusive environment within the changeroom and then helping bring that to a bigger stage and make that the place for football.

“So if we can help football become a more inclusive environment for everyone, that’s the main goal.”

The game itself:
“As always, Melbourne Victory is the biggest fixture in our calendar.

“It’s going to be a massive game, obviously added to the occasion with what the the round is for us.

“But it’s going to be a very tough game.

“They are a very good side, even though the position on the table doesn’t necessarily reflect that.

“We’re in a position where if we win the next couple of games, we’re really putting ourselves up towards that first and second spots.

“And that’s where we want to be.”

Josh Cavallo’s injury:
“I was saying to Josh last week and in the warm up (against Western Sydney Wanderers) that he’s played himself back into the midfield where we’ve probably got the most competition for places.

“He deserved to be in that starting eleven and to get injured the way he has is really disappointing.

“Josh not being not being there will be disappointing for us, but we’ll be doing everything we can to make sure that we can win the game for him and get the three points for us as well.”
