Captain Craig Goodwin and Head Coach Airton Andrioli say Adelaide United’s clash against Melbourne Victory in Mildura is more than just a pre-season hit-out – it’s an opportunity to connect with the regional community and inspire the next generation of footballers.
The Reds will face Victory at the Mildura Sporting Precinct on Saturday afternoon, with both sides continuing their preparations for the 2025/26 Isuzu UTE A-League season.
Craig Goodwin on the occasion in Mildura…
“It’s a great opportunity to get out to a different community in Australia, obviously here in Mildura, and a great occasion for the town to be able to watch Adelaide against Melbourne Victory. We’ve had the chance to explore, meet the kids, and do some clinics – it’s all about broadening that connection between football and the rest of the country.”
On being an inspiration for local kids…
“There’s a lot of kids here today with some really good abilities. If us being here can give them that little bit of inspiration to push on and achieve more, then that’s a good thing for football in Australia.”
On Victory and the rivalry…
“They’re a strong club, always capable of signing marquees, and of course this is the Original Rivalry. For them to be strong makes the contest even more entertaining. I look forward to the challenge this weekend and throughout the season.”

Airton Andrioli on pre-season progress…
“Pre-season in Australia is long, but it’s about getting the preparation right – the numbers, the fitness levels, the way we want them to be. Having a game like this against quality opposition is really important. We want to finalise our preparation and be ready for Round 1.”
On squad development and young players…
“It’s part of our philosophy to give young players opportunities, but it’s also about balance. Having experienced players like Goody and Bart alongside our youth helps create consistency and development.”
On connecting with regional communities…
“As Goody mentioned, it’s really important to spread the message and grow the game in places like Mildura. We want to put on a good game for the fans here and give them something to enjoy.”
