Adelaide United Captain, Craig Goodwin, has praised his teammates’ ‘fighting spirit’, which saw the Reds overturn a 2-0 deficit against Western United.

Adelaide United Captain, Craig Goodwin, has praised his teammates’ ‘fighting spirit’, which saw the Reds overturn a 2-0 deficit against Western United.

Goals from Zach Clough, Ryan Kitto, and Craig Goodwin ensured Adelaide left Victoria with three points.

Speaking post-game, Goodwin admitted the fighting spirit that turned Saturday afternoon’s game on its head had been missing earlier in the season.

Goodwin said:
“The fighting spirit, I think, is something we showed a lot last season.

“But it’s not necessarily something we’ve had when we’ve gone down in games this year and especially going down to 2-0.

“Even just after halftime, the message was positive the whole time.

“We said: ‘keep going, keep playing, we’re creating good chances, we’ll get back in this game’.

“But we had to try and keep playing.

“Once we got that first goal, the belief kind of kicked in a bit more and we really kicked on with it.

“I said before the game, we had to be patient against this team and really shift the ball quickly and move them out of position.

“And we started to do that a lot more in the second half, and (I’m) just really happy with the effort to get the result.”
