Emily Hodgson’s ninth minute goal, her first in nearly eight years, sealed Adelaide United’s first ever win against the Central Coast Mariners in the Ninja A-League.
Speaking to United Media after the match, Hodgson shared her excitement over her long-awaited goal but also the team’s achievements stemming from the clash including a first ever win against the Mariners, whilst notching up another clean sheet.
Hodgson on scoring her second A-Leagues goal, nearly eight years since her first:
It feels amazing. It has been so long since I scored a goal. I scored in my first ever season so to get one now is amazing. It’s been a long time coming and it kind of came out of no where. I’ve had a couple of shots this year, but it’s so good to finally get one.
Hodgson on the formation and game plan today against the Mariners that saw the leftback score:
There were definitely tactics to press high and get higher up the field today so that we had more attacking options- and it definitely paid off!
Hodgson on both the individual and team achievements from the Round 10 clash:
Breaking records for us is a huge thing. It was great to become the first team to win at Woy Woy Oval and to beat the Mariners for the first time ever. It was also another clean sheet for Claudia between the sticks with some huge saves today. The vibe around the team is so positive at the moment, it’s amazing and it shows in our performance.
Hodgson on what’s next as the side face the Newcastle Jets in a short turnaround:
I think we just keep doing what we’re doing. We’re sitting fourth and we’ve already surpassed last season’s points and we’re only in Round 10. What we’re doing is working and the girls are all really positive and we’re all working really hard; so, just more of the same!
Adelaide United will be looking for three consecutive wins when they face the Newcastle Jets at No. 2 Sportsground on Wednesday 8 January.
