Adelaide United Head Coach, Carl Veart, says the Reds’ second half intensity was what changed Saturday afternoon’s match against Western United and saw his side overturn a two goal deficit.
Two goals either side of half time from the hosts left Adelaide with plenty of work to do with less than 40 minutes on the clock.
But Veart’s decision to inject some fresh legs into the match soon after going down 2-0 was the catalyst for an inspired comeback.
The youthful exuberance of Josh Cavallo and Nestory Irankunda helped push the Reds forward, helping create an intensity that Veart believes aided in the win.
Veart said:
“Mentally and physically we weren’t there until we scored the first goal and it sort of kicked our guys into into gear because up until that minute, we weren’t even at the races.
“We lifted our intensity (in the second half).
“The first half, we were so far away from where we wanted to be and Western punished us for that.
“Then, once we lifted our intensity and played at our level, we got back into the game and the boys went on and won.
“We’re starting to get a lot more consistent.
“The last month-and-a-half, two months of training has really increased and improved and we’re starting to see that now with our results.”
