Isaías not fussed who Reds host in Elimination Final

Isaías insists it does not matter which team Adelaide United faces in their home Elimination Final at Coopers Stadium next Sunday.

The Reds will likely host Wellington Phoenix, who currently occupy fifth spot, but could still play Melbourne City if they defeat Central Coast Mariners by a significant margin and the ‘Nix lose to Perth Glory on Sunday to usurp them on goal difference.

The Spaniard believed there should not be a preference who the Reds face as it suggests a weak mentality and implored fans to fill Coopers Stadium regardless.

“If you want to win the Championship you must be able to beat any team and it doesn’t matter the team you’re are facing,” he told reporters.

“I know how good the atmosphere is at Coopers Stadium when we play at home when it’s a full house.

“It’s so difficult for the other teams and it’s so easy for us, so I would like to make a big call to all the fans to come to next Sunday’s game.”

The influential midfielder was also confident in the squad’s ability to cause damage this Finals Series, when quizzed about Adelaide’s chances of winning a second Championship.

“I really believe in this squad and the system that we’re playing and the philosophy,” he claimed.

“And I know that when we’re one hundred per cent switched on, we can beat any team in the league and we’ve showed it before.

“Especially when we play at home I know we’re able to beat any team.”

Adelaide recorded a 5-3 win over Brisbane Roar to conclude the regular season on ANZAC Day and indeed seal fourth spot in the process.

Isaías said the only real positive to take away from the victory was their prolific display up front.

“It’s good that we scored five goals obviously,” he said.

“It’s always good to score that many goals, but I’m not really happy with the performance of the team.

“As I said before, I think it’s a good wake-up call for all of us and if we want to do well in the Finals we need to do better.”

Like a fine wine, the Reds Captain appears to be getting better with age.

At 32 he scored United’s fifth and final goal, which proved to be a personal-best fourth strike of the regular season and was one of the Club’s most consistent performers.

“That’s always nice to be on the scoresheet even if it’s not something I normally do,” he said.

“But it’s always nice to help the team.”

On playing every minute of every match for the first time ever in the Hyundai A-League this season, Isaías added: “I’m feeling good, it’s a very good thing, and a very good stat that you play every single minute.

“And I feel really lucky that I could do this and I’m really happy with my whole season.”
