“It’s a huge opportunity – I’m ready to repay the Club’s faith”: Tsiounis on ALW appointment

Following today’s appointment as Adelaide United’s A-League Women’s Head Coach, Theo Tsiounis sat down with United Media to share his thoughts on the opportunity, his coaching journey, and the vision he brings to the role.

From grassroots football to developing elite talent, Tsiounis reflects on the experiences that have shaped him – and the excitement of guiding the Reds into a new chapter.

Tsiounis on being named A-League Women’s Head Coach…
“It’s a huge opportunity – and I’m very thankful for the trust the Club has placed in me. It’s not something I take lightly, and I’m ready to work hard to repay that faith.”

On his reaction to being offered the role…
“It’s every coach’s dream to work at a professional level. I’ve spent years giving back to the community through football, so to be recognised and offered this role was incredibly humbling.”

On his coaching journey and philosophy…
“I’ve been lucky to learn from a wide range of people across different clubs. Each experience has shaped who I am today. My focus has always been on building strong relationships, continuing to learn, and creating an environment that helps others grow.”

On developing young players and building balance…
“Giving young players opportunities is a huge passion of mine. But just as important is surrounding them with strong leaders. Success comes from striking the right balance between youth and experience – and this Club has done that well in recent years.”

On building on last season’s success…
“Adrian Stenta and the previous staff did a tremendous job laying a strong foundation. I’ll be taking time to understand what’s working, where we can improve, and how to align my football philosophy with the Club’s direction.”

On what excites him about the current group…
“There’s real talent in this team, and a culture that’s already very strong. That excites me. I want to help these players grow individually and continue pushing the team to even greater heights.”

On club culture and community connection…
“Having spent so long in local clubs, I understand how important it is to feel connected to something bigger. Adelaide United already does a great job in this space, and I’ll be continuing that work – being present, accessible, and engaged with the football community.”

On working with Technical Director Ernest Faber…
“Things are still in the early stages, but Ernest has a clear vision for developing South Australian talent – players and coaches alike. That’s something I’m deeply aligned with.”

On his message to members and fans…
“I’ll be a fierce advocate for the women’s game, and I hope South Australians jump on board with us. Your support will be vital in what we’re trying to build here – and I can’t wait to share this journey with you.”
