“It’s Going to Be an Entertaining Game” – Veart Anticipates a Big Test Against Wanderers

Adelaide United Isuzu UTE A-League Head Coach, Carl Veart, has turned the squad’s attention to tomorrow’s game against Western Sydney Wanderers after a disappointing result last week.

Veart stressed the importance of maintaining focus and discipline as his side prepares for a challenging encounter against an in-form Wanderers team.

Veart on the squad’s reaction to last week’s result…
“We had a good review of that game last week, and then, you know, we’ve moved on to the Wanderers. We know it’s going to be a big game tomorrow night. They’ve found some form, so it’s going to be a very good game.”

Veart on the key focus for the team and conceding the late Sydney goal…
“It’s just focus. It’s all those small details that can cost you. We didn’t defend the corner well, and we didn’t need to give away the free kick that led to the corner. We need pressure on the ball around the edge of the box, right across the whole game. There were some really good positive signs from the game, though, and I thought our football, at times, was excellent.”

Veart on animated moments with players during the game…
“We’re very open with our feedback to the players, and they are with us. This year, we’ve been very direct in what we want to achieve as a playing group. It’s about our standards and making sure we don’t lose our focus on where we want to be at the end of the season.”

Veart on their attacking philosophy…
“We’ve always wanted to play entertaining and attacking football, and that’s something we can do in the A-League. It’s also about developing our younger players for the next step in their careers, and that’s why we emphasise pressure and playing at a high level consistently. We won’t step away from that, and we’re not going to change our principles.”

Veart on the training week leading up to the match…
“The boys have got a lot of confidence in how we’ve played this year. Christmas is always a good time to reflect and spend time with family, but the players have been excellent this week, and we’ve had good training sessions.”

Veart on what to expect from Western Sydney…
“They’re a very good attacking side. They’ve shown that the last few weeks, and they’ve got a lot of threats going forward. So, it’s important that we stay organised and disciplined with our defensive efforts. Our football will create opportunities, and it’s about taking those chances.”

Veart on the importance of home form…
“Yeah, maybe we should have had an extra four points from our home games, but that’s football. It’s important we don’t lose sight of where we want to be, and that comes from being disciplined and sticking to our principles. We need to remain focused right to the final whistle.”

Veart on the threat of Western Sydney’s Juan Mata…
“He’s a quality player and has shown that coming off the bench. Hopefully, when he comes on, we’re already a few goals in front. We won’t change how we play for certain individuals—it’s about the team.”
