Jordan Elsey Returns to Adelaide United on One-Year Deal

Adelaide United is delighted to announce the return of centre-back Jordan Elsey to the Club on a one-year deal. The 30-year-old defender, who made 141 appearances and scored six goals during his first stint with the Reds, is back to add valuable experience and leadership to the squad.

Elsey, a product of South Australian football, has been training with the first team since mid-July, completing his rehabilitation and working towards full fitness.

His presence brings a wealth of A-League experience and an intimate understanding of the Club, having been an integral part of Adelaide United’s 2015/16 Premiership and Championship-winning side. Elsey also lifted the Australia Cup (formerly the FFA Cup) twice with the Reds in 2018 and 2019.

On his return, Elsey said:

“I’m absolutely thrilled to be coming back home to Adelaide United. This club means everything to me, and to be able to wear the red shirt again is something really special.

“I’m feeling great physically and mentally, and I’m ready to contribute both on and off the pitch. I’m excited to be a leader in the dressing room and give everything I have to help the team succeed this season,” Elsey said.

Jordan’s performances in training have caught the eye of newly appointed Technical Director Ernest Faber, who has described him as a “ready-made centre-back” set to provide valuable depth to the squad.

Faber also emphasised Elsey’s leadership qualities, noting that his presence in the dressing room will be vital as he supports both experienced players and emerging talents.

“Jordan embodies much of the DNA of our club, having played the majority of his career here. His international experience has enhanced his leadership skills, making him a key influence for our younger players.

“He is solid in defence, strong in passing, and a valuable asset during set pieces with his ability to win headers.”” Faber concluded.

After leaving Adelaide United in 2021, Elsey went on to make 34 appearances for the Newcastle Jets and 10 appearances for Perth Glory. Now, the Para Hills Knights junior and 2013/14 A-League Rising Star Award winner is thrilled to be back at his boyhood club.

Elsey’s return is a homecoming that the Reds’ faithful will no doubt celebrate, as Adelaide United prepares for another exciting season.
