Adelaide United fell to a late winner that handed Brisbane Roar the three points, following a solid performance in a bid to break into the Westfield W-League top four at Suncorp Stadium on Friday.
Adelaide faced a strong Brisbane Roar side stacked with Matildas, and put in a good defensive performance but were unfortunate to concede late in the match.
Reds’ ‘keeper, Eliza Campbell proved her worth once again, and showed why she deserved a Matilda’s call-up as she kept Roar out of the match in an outstanding shift.
Defender, Katie Naughton had one of Adelaide’s best chances, as she latched her header goal-ward for Mackenzie Arnold to tip onto the side, rattling the post.
Brisbane were able to break the dead-lock in the 86th minute, in a heartbreaking moment for Adelaide when Hayley Raso found the back of the net following an unlucky deflection by the visitors.
Karlovic named an almost identical starting XI from the win against Perth Glory last weekend. The one change, Nora Peat, warranted a starting position after having impressed the boss and replacing Danielle Colaprico due a late exclusion.
Key Moments:
11’ | Chance! Naughton sends her header towards goal in Adelaide’s best chance of the first half, but Arnold gets a hand to it, following a beautiful free-kick into the area by Alyssa Mautz.
13’ | Makenzy Doniak breaks through and sends her effort wide, in what is a good piece of lead-up play.
15’ | Katrina Gorry finds some space on the edge of the area, but hits her shot over the bar.
