Reds defeated by Mariners

Adelaide United fell 4-1 to Central Coast Mariners at Coopers Stadium in the last game of the home and away season for 2022/23 on Friday night.

United started well, however wet and blustering conditions did not help their cause and were soon behind in the opening stages.

The hosts grabbed a consolation goal on the stroke of full-time, Ryan Kitto lashing home from close range after the Mariners failed to clear a free kick.

The result means the Reds were unable to retain second spot on the ladder, however, thanks to other results favouring Carl Veart’s side, United were able to clinch third overall.

Head Coach, Veart, is eager for his side to quickly turn its attention to the elimination final.

“I’m disappointed with the result tonight but we have to look at the positives,” he said.

“We still finished third; we need to keep our belief and go into the final with some positive energy and get a good result.”
