Member Update from the CEO

Dear Members,

We hope you are staying safe and are looking forward to watching the Reds return to action against Brisbane Roar this Sunday on the Gold Coast.

As you may have seen today, Football Federation Australia released an updated draw to conclude the Hyundai A-league 2019/20 season which unfortunately does not include any matches at Coopers Stadium. You can view the FFA Media Release here.

We were optimistic about hosting at least one, but potentially two, matches in front of our members and fans, and were well-progressed in planning for crowds at Coopers Stadium.

The South Australian Government’s decision on Tuesday to postpone the reopening of the NSW/ACT border has necessitated we shift from a home to an interstate contingency plan given it is no longer possible to host matches in South Australia in the timeframe required to complete the season.

This is obviously disappointing given how well South Australian’s have managed the COVID-19 pandemic although fluid changes to the best laid plans is part of the reality we are all living with at the moment.

This means that following our match on Sunday against Brisbane Roar, our team will fly directly to Sydney on Monday and will stay in a hub to complete our remaining regular season matches at NSW venues. Our Director of Football, Bruce Djite, addressed the media on this. Please watch below.

Despite moving to a NSW hub and leaving behind family and friends, our players and football staff are fully committed to the task ahead of us. The unwavering goal remains to be playing finals football next month and Carl, along with the coaching staff, have done a fantastic job in preparing the team to achieve this.

Although playing at home this season is no longer a possibility, we have been prepared for this scenario and are close to finalising options for our members. This will be made known to all of you very soon, so please do bear with us as we finalise the details.

We thank you for your steadfast support and patience and we will be in touch shortly with further information.

Yours sincerely,

Nathan Kosmina
