Adelaide United Women’s Head Coach Adrian Stenta Previews Clash Against Central Coast Mariners
Adelaide United Women’s Head Coach Adrian Stenta has praised his squad’s preparation as they gear up for Saturday’s Ninja A Leagues fixture against the Central Coast Mariners. With confidence high after a solid victory against Western Sydney Wanderers, Stenta emphasised the importance of maintaining momentum and consistency in a tightly contested A-League Women’s season.
Stenta on the squad’s preparation this week…
“We’ve had a fantastic week, really positive out at training. The girls have been working really hard, and it’s been great to get some solid training in and a good lead into the game. We’re really looking forward to what will be a tough test against Central Coast on Saturday.”
Stenta on squad injuries and Tiarna’s status…
“It’s really unfortunate for Tiarna, because she had a great game against Western Sydney, but she’s still in the concussion protocol, so it’s a little too tight to get her on board for the traveling squad. That said, it gives an opportunity for a couple of other players, and we’re in a good position with a relatively healthy squad and a lot of players to choose from.”
Stenta on reflections from the Western Sydney match…
“I think it was a fantastic performance, and at times, we played some of the best football we’ve played this year. I know some people will focus on the fact that it was only 1-0 and the missed chances, but we created a lot and dominated large parts of the game. Overall, I thought the performance was outstanding, and I’m happy we got the result as well.”
Stenta on what to expect from Central Coast Mariners…
“They’ve only lost a couple of games this year, and they’re really structured defensively, sound, and dangerous on the counterattack. Playing at home, they’ll be buoyed to come up against us. So, we’ll need to be at our best, but I’m sure we will be.”
Stenta on building momentum in the league…
“Momentum and consistency are very important because the league’s so close and tight. A couple of good wins in a row can really shoot you up the table and cement you in that top six. That’s what we’re aiming for, to build a bit of momentum and consistency in our performance.”
Stenta on confidence when playing away…
“We saw that earlier in the year against Canberra. We went away to a tough venue where we haven’t had a lot of success in the past and got a good win, then backed it up the week after with a win at home. So, playing away is always a bit of a challenge, but the group is full of confidence, and I’m excited to see how they perform.”
Stenta on the benefits of a consistent playing style…
“Absolutely. It’s important, especially because we don’t have another side that sits underneath the women’s team to give those players who aren’t playing games or minutes. When they do get their opportunity, they’re able to come in, not just play, but perform really well.”
Stenta on the A-League Women’s season so far…
“I think it’s been a fantastic season and a great advertisement for our game here. Even the teams near the bottom of the table—one or two wins, and they’re up inside the top six. Everyone’s beating everyone, and it’s really exciting because it means you’ve got an opportunity to go out and play to win every single week.”
