Muñiz: “We’re on the right path – I’m sure we’ll enjoy this season together”

Spanish midfielder Juan Muñiz says Adelaide United are “improving day by day” after making his first home start in the Reds’ 2–0 win over Western Sydney Wanderers at Coopers Stadium.

Muñiz, who arrived shortly before the start of the season, impressed with his creativity and composure in midfield as goals from Luka Jovanović and Craig Goodwin secured the victory.

Muñiz on making his first start
“I’m really happy, especially playing at home with a good atmosphere. It was my first game in the starting eleven, and I think we played a serious game. We controlled it well in the first half, and even though they had a few counter-attacks, we’re improving day by day. We’re a young team, but we’re on the right path. I’m sure we’ll enjoy this season a lot – especially at home with our fans.”

Muñiz on adapting to the Isuzu UTE A-League
“I came a bit late, about a week before the season started, so it’s been a process to build fitness. I felt really good physically last week – a bit tired near the end, but that’s normal. It’ll come with rhythm and games. For me, the most important thing is the team not individual things. I believe in the collective.”

Muñiz on his experience and helping younger teammates
“One of the reasons I came here was to share my experience with the younger players. It’s a great mix – experienced players helping the younger ones, who already have so much potential. Some of them look like they’ve been playing for years. My role is to bring calmness in the final third – that little bit of control in the last pass or finish.”

Muñiz on Craig Goodwin’s influence
“He’s a big star in the league and in the country, but so humble. From the first day, he treated me so well. I’m really grateful for him.”

Muñiz on Luka Jovanović’s growth
“Luka has great finishing ability. He just needed calmness in front of goal, and you can see that in the last two games. He’ll score many more.”

Muñiz on his first impressions of the league
“I like the rhythm, the intensity, and how the league has evolved. There are so many talented young players now – it’s a very exciting competition. Everything my friend Juan Mata told me about Australia and the league was true.”
