It was a family affair on Saturday afternoon as Adelaide United Youth fought back from a goal down to earn 1-1 draw with Croydon Kings at the VALO Football Centre – The Parks.
Dom Costanzo, son of Adelaide United legend, Angelo Costanzo, came off the bench to head in the equalising goal against the Kings who are coached by his Dad.
Antoni Trimboli had earlier opened the scoring for Croydon but Costanzo ensured the points would be shared following his 82nd minute header.
Adelaide had the better of the chances but could not capitalise enough to secure a third straight victory.
It was the Young Reds who had the first real opportunity when Ryan Yates was spotted unmarked in the box.
The midfielder connected with a low cut-back from the left but his curling shot from 15 yards out was parried wide by the Croydon ‘keeper.
Adelaide also had another decent chance to break deadlock minutes into the second-half.
Pacifique Niyongabire’s squared a pass to Kristin Konstandopoulos, though he was unable to strike his shot with enough venom to trouble the gloveman.
And on 71 minutes it was the visitors who drew first blood following a goal-mouth scramble from a corner which culminated in an audacious back-heel finish from Trimboli.
But fortunately for Paul Pezos’ team the lead was short lived, with Costanzo rising highest from a corner to see his header fly into the net with eight minutes remaining.
The result extends United Youth’s unbeaten streak to three matches ahead of their away meeting with MetroStars next Saturday.
