Pleased Stenta ready for more ‘glory’

Adelaide United Head Coach, Adrian Stenta, gave his thoughts about his side’s Round 2 match against Perth Glory on Sunday evening.

Adelaide United Head Coach, Adrian Stenta, gave his thoughts about his side’s Round 2 match against Perth Glory on Sunday evening.

The Reds will line up against Glory at Macedonia Park on Sunday evening full of confidence following their Round 1 win over Sydney FC at ServiceFM Stadium.

A late goal from Emilia Murray was enough for Stenta’s side to run-out 1-0 winners in what was a resilient performance in Round 1.

Final reflections from Sydney win:
“It was obviously a really pleasing result to come up against the Premiers from last year and keep a clean sheet and score late winner.

Emilia Murray’s winner in Round 1 of the Liberty A-League 2022/23 season is reward for years of hard work.

“(That) always brings a lot of positivity into the next week.

“It probably didn’t feel like we played to our best and to the level that we’re capable of but that’s a good thing for us moving forward because it means we’ve still got some some room for improvement and some room for growth.”

Training this week:
“We’ve really worked a lot tactically this week and tried to freshen up the players as much as we can.

“We think that Perth brings some interesting challenges and we’ve worked on a few things with the ball and without the ball to try and give us some advantage in that game.

“There’s some headaches for me this week because I think the 16 that played on the weekend did a really good job.

“Everyone contributed, even from the bench, and we’ve got some real quality starter material players who weren’t in the squad (against Sydney) as well.

“So training has been excellent this week.

“It’s been really positive and I’ve got to think long and hard about who I bring in and who I play.”

Securing ‘glory’:
“(Perth) are technical side, they’re well coached (and) like to play with the ball.

“They’re a side that shows a bit of resilience as well, (being) down twice last week away from home and (they) were able to get something out of that game.

“I think they’re going to present a really difficult game for us and a really interesting challenge.
