Reds await AFC Champions League 2017 Group Stage draw

Adelaide United will discover two of its Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Champions League 2017 group stage opponents at the competition’s official draw on Tuesday in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

The AFC Champions League (ACL) 2017 Group Stage draw will take place in Kuala Lumpur at the Hilton Petaling Jaya, Selangor in Malaysia on 13 December 2016 at 6.30pm ACDT. 

The Reds secured automatic qualification to the tournament, after successfully clinching the Hyundai A-League 2015/16 Premiership last season.

Adelaide United representatives will be in attendance for the draw in Kuala Lumpur, as the Reds’ return to the ACL for the first time since the 2012 edition.

For the draw, the Club will be situated in the Eastern slot allocation and could potentially be drawn against teams from Japan, Korea Republic, China, and Thailand among other nations in the Eastern Conference. 

The final team in the group will be determined in early February 2017 after the qualifying play-off round concludes.   

The competition begins in February next year with the winners and runners-up of each group progressing to the Round of 16.
