Reds conclude three-game road trip with Macarthur visit

Javi Lopez

Adelaide United has the chance to strengthen its standing in the top four with a win over Macarthur FC at Campbelltown Stadium on Saturday.

The Reds will play their third away match in a week and come into the clash fresh off a dramatic 2-1 comeback win over Melbourne City on Tuesday, thanks to another late goal.

Mohamed Toure opened his account for the season after capitalising on a miscued back pass, and the talented forward will be hoping that can be the impetus to get his season going.

After a five-game unbeaten start to the campaign which included four consecutive victories, Macarthur are winless in its previous five matches.

The Bulls suffered a 3-1 defeat against Brisbane Roar and lie equal sixth on the table.

Team news

Lachlan Brook is a chance to feature after missing the midweek clash against Melbourne City following a knock. George Timotheou has also been named in the extended squad, while Juande has been rested.

What the expert says

Daniel Mullen: Adelaide will be coming into this match high on confidence after taking three points from Melbourne City away from home. Performances have been inconsistent with many new faces coming in to the squad – and important players leaving; but results will help build confidence and continuity. Macarthur have been struggling with results lately but have a deep squad full of quality and will be looking to secure a home win in front of their fans.

One to watch

Daniel Mullen: When Craig Goodwin plays well – United usually win. He will be pivotal in creating chances for them. With Hiroshi Ibusuki becoming a regular starter and finding his feet, Goodwin’s delivery could prove decisive.

Key battle

Daniel Mullen: Battle of the GK’s. Both ‘keepers have shown they can be real match winners. Both teams will be looking to keep goals to a minimum so it will be interesting to see who comes out on top.
