Adelaide United will be represented by Galekovic and Carrusca who’ve been voted by the public into the Foxtel A-League All Stars squad to face Juventus in Sydney on August 10.
As our International Marquee Marcelo Carrusca and Australian Marquee Eugene Galekovic, Adelaide United has always valued these two players. Now they have been recognised by the country, voted by fans and selected to play vital roles for the FOXTEL A-Leauge All Stars match against Italian giants Juventus in a friendly at Sydney-s ANZ Stadium on Sunday 10 August.
It was confirmed today that Marcelo would appear for the All Stars for the second year in a row, while this will be Eugene-s first selection, but it comes as no surprise given his inclusion for the Socceroos in the World Cup.
With Josep Gombau as the Head Coach, the Reds are well represented in the squad, a true testament to the success of the club in the last season.
Galekovic has been a stand out in goals for the past few seasons and his selection is a testament to this. He won the ‘Goal Keeper of the Year- award last season and was recognised by Ange Postecolgou, Head Coach of the Socceroos, as the best Goal Keeper in the A-League.
But this is a different appraisal, voted by the fans of the A-League and recognised by fans of all clubs as the best man for the job.
“It-s fantastic. Coming off such a good season last year and wanting to continue that momentum gained from the World Cup,” said Galekovic.
“It will be fantastic to actually get some game time against some of the best players in the world, particularly with the upcoming LFP World Challenge match against Málaga.”
Marcelo has already had experience against the best in the world, playing against Manchester United in last year-s All Stars squad. Again another wonderful accomplishment to be recognised by A-League fans across the country.
“I am looking forward to playing against the best in the world, especially under Josep,” said Carrusca.
“I want to thank the fans for voting for me and for giving me another chance to play. It will be a good match.”
The remaining fan voted players in the Foxtel A-League All Stars 2014 squad will be announced throughout this week.
Gomabu still has 4 wild card picks, so there is a good chance more Reds will be represented.
The Foxtel A-League All Stars- match against Juventus FC will be broadcast live and exclusive on the Seven Network nationally on Sunday 10 August.
