Adelaide United has won 3-2 over Western United in Round 16 of the Isuzu UTE A-League.
Second half goals from Zach Clough, Ryan Kitto, and Craig Goodwin ensured the Reds clawed themselves back into the game, after strikes either side of half time from the hosts saw them up 2-0 initially.
The Reds did have the ball in the back of the net first through Louis D’Arrigo, however Ben Halloran was ruled offside in the buildup.
Carl Veart’s side had another few good chances to take the lead in the opening 45 in particular, Clough, primarily, popping up in the Western box multiple times.
The first effort came after 21 minutes when a Halloran effort, that was cleared off the line, fell to Clough, but his effort looped past the near post.
13 minutes later, Clough played Hiroshi Ibusuki in, but the Japanese striker’s shot went over the bar.
The next minute saw a deft touch from Clough allow the Englishman to fire an effort on-goal, but it was saved.
On the hour mark, a Craig Goodwin corner was deflected onto the crossbar, yet luck was not on the Reds’ side and the ball was cleared.
In the 69th minute, second half substitute, Nestory Irankunda, burst down the right flank to cut the ball back for Clough, who scored a deserving goal.
With 14 minutes left on the clock, Ryan Kitto stabbed the ball home from point-blank range after a devilish free-kick from Goodwin ricocheted off the far post and fell to Adelaide’s No. 7’s feet.
And then, with 86 minutes on the clock, Goodwin dispatched a cool penalty to send the Reds home with three points, after Halloran was bundled over in the box.
