Reds repatriate Warland on two-year deal

Adelaide United can announce defender, Ben Warland, has signed a two-year contract until the end of the 2023/24 season, returning to his hometown Club.

The 25-year-old has spent the last four-and-a-half years interstate with Sydney FC but is back at Coopers Stadium where he amassed 14 appearances between 2015 and 2018.

With the Sky Blues, the centre-back featured 57 times, scoring one goal and clinched two Premierships and one Championship.

Speaking about his decision to return to the Reds, Warland said: “I’m really excited about coming home and re-joining Adelaide United.

“It’s a Club where I began my professional career and I can’t wait to be closer to my friends and family, and playing in front of our amazing fans.

“I’ve improved a lot during my time with Sydney FC and I’m hoping to contribute to the team’s success and be as consistent as possible.

“It’s clear the Club is making positive steps forward and it’s exciting to know I will be part of that moving forward.”

Adelaide United Head Coach, Carl Veart, said: “We’re delighted to have signed Ben, another South Australian, for the next two seasons.

“Having been involved with one of the most successful clubs in the country, Ben would have gained a lot of experience during his time in Sydney, playing alongside some very experienced defenders and amongst a quality group overall.

“His addition strengthens our depth in the centre of defence and he will definitely provide strong competition in that area.”
