Adelaide United is delighted to announce Yared Abetew has been added to the Reds’ squad ahead the A-League 2020/21 season.
Abetew, who joined the Club’s Youth Team from Croydon Kings, made his senior debut last season where he started against Melbourne City in a Round 2 clash.
The 21-year-old is predominantly a defender that can play either at right-back or centre-back, but is also capable of featuring as a defensive midfielder given his strong ability on the ball.
Speaking on signing with the Club, Abetew said: “I’m really excited and so grateful for the opportunity given to me, especially being born and raised here in Adelaide and playing for my hometown club.
“I’ve worked really hard to earn this and just really excited and keen to see what the year holds for me.
“Making my debut last season was a really good moment and a really good achievement for me.
“My family were really proud of me and I’m just prepared to continue working and try get as my many minutes as possible this season.
“Carl is a really good coach, we saw what he was capable of in the hub, and I’m learning a lot with him and he’s given young players like me a lot of confidence.”
Adelaide United Director of Football, Bruce Djite, said: “We’re very happy to have signed Yared for the new A-League season.
“He fully deserves this contract having worked and trained with the senior squad for a considerable amount of time, while also producing consistent performances for our Youth team.
“Yared is well aware of what is required to play at this level after making his senior debut last year.
“Yared is extremely versatile and provides Carl (Veart) with added flexibility because he can play in multiple positions.”
