Adelaide United is pleased to announce young goalkeeper, Ethan Cox, has signed a three-year scholarship contract with the Club.
Cox, 16, joined the Reds ahead of the Foxtel Y-League 2019/20 season from NTC.
After showing potential during training and games, he has since been rewarded and will train with the Hyundai A-League squad on a daily basis, working alongside Goalkeeping Coach, Eugene Galekovic, and fellow goalkeepers, Paul Izzo, Isaac Richards, and Dakota Ochsenham.
“It’s a great feeling signing for Adelaide United,” Cox said. “It’s always been a dream of mine to represent Adelaide United and I’m now one step closer to achieving that.
“I know I’m joining a very talented group of goalkeepers at Adelaide United and I’m looking forward to training with them day-to-day.
“To also be coached by Eugene is fantastic because he’s one of the best goalkeepers this club has ever had and he has some amazing experiences I can learn from.
“I still have a lot of work to do and can improve my game much more, so that’s my main focus moving forward.”
Director of Football, Bruce Djite, said Cox is a talented young goalkeeper and another example of the abundance of talent coming through in South Australia.
“Ethan has a lot of potential and we are delighted he has committed his future to Adelaide United,” Djite said.
“Signing him to a three-year deal shows the faith we have in his ability and we believe his development will only continue training in a very competitive environment under Eugene’s tutorage and alongside our other ‘keepers.
“This is just the beginning for Ethan and there is still a long way for him to go in his development.
“We’re confident that right here at Adelaide United, Ethan will be given every opportunity to fulfil his potential and we’re excited to see him develop in the coming years.
“Like with signing 15-year-old Mohamed Toure last week, we will have a plan in place and work with his family and school to ensure his football commitments complement his education.”
