Adelaide United trio, Lachlan Brook, Louis D’Arrigo, and Jai King have today been named in new Young Socceroos Head Coach Gary van Egmond’s maiden squad in charge of Australia’s under-20 men’s national football team.
Van Egmond has selected 30 players for a training camp at the Australian Institute of Sport in Canberra from Sunday, 28 July 2019 to Friday, 2 August 2019.
Nine Hyundai A-League clubs have players represented in van Egmond’s squad, while four National Premier Leagues (NPL) clubs – Sutherland Sharks FC (NSW), Manly United FC (NSW), Birkalla SC (SA), and Mt Druitt Rangers FC (NSW) – have also had players called up.
At the completion of the camp in Canberra, van Egmond will confirm his 23-player roster for Australia’s participation at the 2019 AFF U-18 Championship in Vietnam.
The 2019 AFF U-18 Championship will be held in Ho Chi Minh City from August 6 to 19.
The Young Socceroos will play Cambodia, hosts Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia, and Singapore in Group B of the competition, with Myanmar, Indonesia, Laos, Timor-Leste, Philippines, and Brunei Darussalam contesting Group A.
The Semi Finals of the AFF U-18 Championship will be held in Binh Duong on August 17, with the Final to be played in Thong Nhat on August 19.
“The next month represents an exciting opportunity for all the players that have been selected,” van Egmond said. “Our camp in Canberra combined with the 2019 AFF U-18 Championship in Vietnam represents the start of our process to qualify for the FIFA U-20 World Cup in 2021.”
