Football Federation Australia (FFA) Director of Referees Ben Wilson has announced that Jarred Gillett will referee the Hyundai A-League 2016 Grand Final between Adelaide United and the Western Sydney Wanderers at Adelaide Oval on Sunday 1 May.
Gillett, one of the three inaugural FFA Full-time referees, was also named the Hyundai A-League 2015/16 Referee of the Year at the Dolan Warren Awards held at the Carriageworks in Sydney last night.
Wilson congratulated Gillett on his third appointment as the Hyundai A-League Grand Final referee and paid tribute to another outstanding season as a match official.
“As one of the first full time referees to be appointed by FFA, Jarred has been totally committed to every aspect of his refereeing this season. His performances in the Hyundai A-League have reflected his efforts and professional attitude in this new role.
“I am looking forward to watching Jarred and his experienced team of match officials handle what is always a very entertaining match,” concluded Wilson.
Speaking shortly after receiving his award and hearing the news of his appointment, Gillett was proud to have once again been selected to officiate a Hyundai A-League Grand Final.
“It’s an honour to receive this appointment to end what has been an exciting Hyundai A-League season for everyone involved,” said Gillett.
“Being a full-time referee has definitely led to improved performance levels and allowed us to take our game to another level this season.
“We have a strong refereeing team for the Grand Final and we look forward to being a part of this Sunday’s Grand Final at Adelaide Oval,” concluded Gillett.
Wilson also announced that Gillett will be joined by Assistant Referees Matthew Cream and Luke Brennan with Paul Cetrangolo as the Fourth Official. Strebre Delovski and Chris Beath are the Additional Assistant Referees.
Adelaide United will face Western Sydney Wanderers in the 2016 Hyundai A-League Grand Final on Sunday, 1 May at Adelaide Oval. Kick-off is at 3.30pm ACST.
