Adelaide United Women clinched a solid 2-0 win over Canberra United at Coopers Stadium on Thursday night to maintain the Reds’ unbeaten start.

Veronica Latsko netted her second of the season to make it two goals from her last two matches, while a fortuitous deflection which ended in an own goal sealed United’s win late on.

The result also sees the Reds secure a third straight clean sheet and move provisionally into equal first place on the table.

Head Coach, Ivan Karlović named an unchanged line-up for the match following their 1-0 away win over Brisbane Roar last Sunday.

The Reds dominated proceedings early and controlled possession without creating any real chances.

However, Heyman showed great endeavour going forward, proving to be Adelaide’s outlet on the wing.

Canberra slowly got back into the game with Ellie Carpenter looking their most threatening player.

But their momentum soon abated as Adelaide opened the scoring.

Fanndís Fridriksdóttir spread a delightful cross field pass to Michelle Heyman, who then found Latsko at the far post and beat goalkeeper, Shamiran Khamis, to score for the second consecutive week.

Adelaide curtailed Canberra for the majority of the second-half, who only had one glaring opportunity through Madelyn Whittall’s missed header from six yards.

Heyman almost found the net against her former side had it not been for a great save to deny her header.

However, it did not matter as Adelaide doubled their advantage four minutes from time via an own goal.

Latsko’s shot was initially parried but the ball rebounded off Prior and into the vacant goal.

It was another strong performance from Karlović’s team as they face Melbourne City next Saturday.

Key moments:

8’ | Heyman drives to the byline and her cross finds Latsko but her shot is blocked from six yards out.

27’ | GOAL! Fridriksdóttir switches the play with a lovely diagonal ball to Heyman, whose cross picks out Latsko at the back post to bundle her effort home.

86’ | GOAL! Latsko is played through and her one-on-one shot is saved and ricochets off Natasha Prior.
