Adelaide United Head Coach, Adrian Stenta, spoke with AUFC Media ahead of Sunday’s match against Melbourne City.
After an agonising loss to Melbourne Victory at home last weekend, the Reds travel to Victoria to take on the most prolific side in the Liberty A-League – Melbourne City.
Done 3-0 against Sunday’s opposition at home a few weeks ago, Stenta and his squad are eager to put in a good performance and get back to winning ways.
Squad’s reaction:
“The reaction has been really positive.
“We met the day after (the loss to Melbourne Victory) for recovery and then have trained this week to prepare for Melbourne City.
“The girls have really come out strongly and are keen to make amends for another disappointing result.”
Worts getting her goal:
“Like many of the players, as the season has gone on, Fiona has grown into her role and into her performances so far this year.
“It’s great that she scored and it’s fantastic for her. but it doesn’t really matter who’s scoring goals or who’s setting the goals up.
“It’s about the team doing as well as they possibly can and there’s no doubt that when Fiona is confident and playing well, it’s better for our team.
“It’s really important that our whole team finds a bit of cohesion and plays together well.
“And it’s been difficult because there’s been a lot of changes week in, week out, in comparison to how the squad was last year.
“So I’m hoping… the whole team can do a much better job of playing as one.”
Key for this week:
“We’ve just got to be better in the big moments, like against Victory on the weekend.
“Last time we played City, we conceded a goal quite shortly after halftime, so we need to be better at our restarts.
“And we just need to try and make the most of our opportunities, whilst also limiting what is a dangerous City side who have scored lots of goals so far this year.”
