Stenta: “Super grateful” as Reds finish third with 45 points

Adrian Stenta spoke to the media following Adelaide United’s impressive 2-1 win over Sydney FC at Coopers Stadium on Good Friday.

The result secured third place on the table and capped off a strong home-and-away season for the Reds, who now turn their attention to a home Elimination Final. Despite an early setback, Stenta’s side rallied with two goals from Fiona Worts to seal the win in front of an enthusiastic home crowd.

Stenta on finishing the regular season with a win…
“Yeah, it was a fantastic result, and I think we showed a lot of resilience and resolve to come back after a bit of a flat start. Very proud of the team for what they’ve done today, but also all year.”

Stenta on potential injuries to Zoe Tolland and others…
“Nano was just a tactical sub… but you could tell by the way that Zoe came off she had done something to her hamstring. We’ll have to wait and see what the scans show, but it looks like she could be out for the rest of the year, unfortunately. She’s been a real breakout player for us.”

Stenta on squad depth heading into finals…
“We’ve played all of the top eight sides in recent weeks and had to lean on different players. The level hasn’t dropped when we’ve made changes, and that’s what you want heading into a finals series. We’ll be a tricky proposition for anyone.”

Stenta on doing the double over Sydney FC…
“You just have to look at their form coming into today – three wins and three clean sheets – so we knew it would be difficult. I think we stood up and responded really well, and I’m confident we can keep doing that in the finals.”

Stenta on Fiona Worts’ brace against her former club…
“We’ve had a very deliberate plan with Fiona the past six weeks, and it’s worked to a tee. She just loves scoring against her former clubs – today cancels out the two she scored against us last year!”

Stenta on Dylan Holmes’ 100th game…
“Dylan probably epitomises everything this club stands for. She’s a fantastic person and was great again today. I hope she’s here for many more years – I’d love to see her rack up another hundred.”

Stenta reflects on finishing with 45 points…
“I’m just super grateful. Last year was tough, but the club stuck by the players and coaching staff. We made some changes, yes, but a lot of the core remained, and they’ve shown real character to turn things around. I couldn’t be prouder of this group.”
