Adelaide United Head Coach, Adrian Stenta, says his side needs to focus on games as they come, rather then setting sights too far into the future.

The Reds remain within touching distance of the top four and it remains possible for Stenta’s squad to qualify for back-to-back Finals appearances.

Speaking at the Adelaide Airport on Saturday afternoon, Stenta spoke about his side’s form of late ahead of a tantalising encounter with Melbourne Victory.

Season so far:
“(This season) hasn’t turned out the way that we’d have liked.

“We started well and, to be honest, we’ve been playing fairly consistently, but had a lot of trouble scoring goals.

“It’s made it difficult for us to win matches, but we’re really looking forward (to tomorrow), after a couple of weeks off, getting to Melbourne, and putting in a good strong performance.”

Lack of goals:
“It hasn’t been through lack of chance creation.

“We’ve still been creating chances and we’ve still been getting shots on target.

“But for one reason or another, and it’s hard to put your finger on it, but maybe a little bit of form, maybe a little bit of confidence in some of our attacking players, and probably a little bit of inconsistency in the lineup as well haven’t helped.”

Correcting team form:
“Every game is a grand final, but it is very much about the process because when you go through a run like we have where you haven’t won a lot of games for a while, I think it’s a bit silly to look at the table or talk about Finals.

“So we just need to set our sights on Melbourne Victory, put in a strong performance.

“Our best is good enough, so hopefully we bring that consistently enough and we can get a positive result this week.”

A-Leagues Pride Cup:
“It was a fantastic event to be a part of last year and probably one of our best performances for the season, as well against Melbourne Victory.

“I’m just really glad that both clubs have got behind it and thrown their support behind it for the next few years.

“So we’re hoping it’ll be a great event again (this time) in Melbourne, and we’re sure it will be and we’re really happy to be a part of it.”
