Adelaide United’s win over Western United on Sunday made it three wins in-a-row against John Aloisi’s side in Victoria.

While the game was the first time the sides had played at Mars Stadium in Ballarat, the result added to the Reds’ handy record against Western over the border with three straight victories and 10 goals to five in those matches.

The game was Hiroshi Ibusuki’s 50th A-League match. In that time he has scored 14 goals.

Here are some other stats that will impress your friends:

  • Adelaide United’s A-League men’s side does not mind travelling. In its last nine games outside of South Australia, the Reds have lost just once (W4, D4) despite not keeping a clean sheet in any of those matches.
  • Ben Halloran scored his second goal of the season with his long-range goal into the bottom corner in the first half. It was Halloran’s 30th A-League goal and his 26th in all competitions for Adelaide United, moving him into outright eighth for all goals for the club.
  • Adelaide United has been extremely disciplined so far this season having recorded an average of 8.8 fouls against per game, second only to Perth Glory with 8.6 per game.  The Reds have also picked up the fewest yellow cards with six. This week’s opponent Macarthur have the most with 13 yellow cards so far. Interestingly, despite averaging a league worst 13 fouls per match, Sydney FC has the fewest yellow cards of any side with just five.
  • Adelaide United had six players aged 23 or under in its starting 11 against Western United and four teenagers. Statistician Andrew Howe revealed it was the first time ever the Reds had had started with four teenagers on the pitch.
  • Adelaide United Liberty A-League attacker Alana Janćevski became the first Australian player to be subbed off and subbed back on again under the new concussion substitute rule being trialled in the A-Leagues this season. Janćevski was part of the starting line-up for the Reds in their one-all draw against Brisbane on Sunday and came off in the 80th minute for Chrissy Panagaris. When Panagaris suffered a head knock, Janćevski came back on in the 92nd minute. Read more about the rule HERE.
