Tsiounis reflects on first win as Reds boss in WNPL All Stars clash

Adelaide United A-League Women’s Head Coach, Theo Tsiounis, has reflected with pride after his side secured a 2-1 victory over the WNPL All Stars in their first pre-season outing on Saturday at ServiceFM Stadium.

Speaking post-match, Tsiounis said the clash provided valuable insight into his squad’s early progress and offered opportunities for new and young players to impress.

Tsiounis on his first match in charge…
“It’s a surreal feeling, a really proud moment. Obviously, I want to do my best for the club, and we’ve got an amazing group of coaches behind the team to give the players every opportunity for success.”

On the team’s performance and early signs
“It’s about trying to see some pictures that we’ve worked on at training, and to see where we are as a group. There’s a lot to work on moving forward, but this gives us a good measure of where certain players are at.”

On debutants Emilia Makris and Lara Gooch…
“Both girls were fantastic. Emilia didn’t take long to get off the mark, and Lara brought great energy. They offer something different – speed, energy – and will complement the squad really well.”

On the youngsters who featured in the second half…
“It was good to see the NTC girls against strong opposition. It gives us an idea of which players we can use moving forward, and areas they can improve on.”

On the WNPL All Stars concept…
“It’s a great opportunity for players and coaches to showcase their skills. It’s also a chance for us to look at the talent out there. It’s a great idea and I’m thankful they made themselves available.”
