Reds’ boss Carl Veart spoke to the media ahead of his side’s Good Friday’s clash with Western United.
Carl on the International Break being helpful or hindrance…
It sort of killed the momentum a little bit but gave us an opportunity as well to refresh. The boys are in excellent spirits this week on the training track, and they’re really looking forward to getting out tomorrow night and putting in another good performance.
Carl on Western United…
We’re just looking at what we can do. It’s about us getting three points with six games to go. Western United are in a good run of form of late and have picked up some good points in the last few weeks as well, so it’s going to be a tough game. It’s important that we play with the same energy and passion that we showed in Newcastle.
Carl on the health of the squad…
We’ve got pretty much a full list now. There’s only young Pana and Josh that are sort of long term and they’re both gone for the season. But other than that, we’ve got a full squad to select from.
Carl on starting XI for the rest of the season…
We’ve picked the best 11, the 11 that are going to that we believe are going to get the job done. And we won’t shy away from that; we have to win football matches. So we have to pick the best players that we believe will go and win the match tomorrow night. And that’s what we would do every week.
Carl on the return of Musa Toure…
He’s taken a little bit longer than what we wanted to to come back from the injury. He got another injury, while he was injured, so that was unfortunate for him. He’s had a couple of games now in the NPL and got to a level where he can compete in the A-League. So we’re lucky he played well, last week in the NPL. Hopefully he can get some minutes tomorrow night in the A League side and score some goals as well for us.
And finally, Carl on Kusini Yengi scoring his first Socceroos goal and the young SA players away on international duty.
It was great to see all the players that have been away this week on international duty. We had five players playing in the U23’s as well. We’re very proud of their achievements. It’s a credit to those players and they’re the ones that do the work. Yes we provide a platform for them and then it’s up to them and what they do with it. I’m very happy to see those players having success. They’ve worked hard for it, and it’s great to see them get rewarded.
