Veart: We’re really looking forward to this challenge

Adelaide United head coach Carl Veart is looking forward to the prospect of facing Melbourne City, ahead of the Thursday night blockbuster.

Fresh off a victory against Sydney, Veart has conceded that it will be a tough match, despite beating City 6-nil in Round Two of the 2023/24 Isuzu-UTE A-League at Coopers.

Speaking in preparation for the big clash, Veart discussed a range of topics.

Carl Veart on his expectations for the match ahead:

“They’ve (Melbourne City) have been playing well over the last few weeks. So it’s going to be a tough game. It always is when we go there, but we always seem to have good success there. We’re really looking forward to this challenge.”

Carl Veart on facing his good mate, Aurelio Vidmar:

“We’re good friends. I’m very happy that Aurelio is back coaching in the A-League. He is a great guy and a good coach. I’m looking forward to catching up with him again tomorrow.”

Carl Veart on the versatility of Isaías:

“Isaías has been a great servant for the club. He is prepared to play wherever he needs to play. He’s a great example to the rest of the playing group. I thought he was excellent playing as a centre back last week against Sydney. There’s nothing he can’t do at the moment!”

Carl Veart on the United youth:

“We’ve got a good balance at the moment in the squad. It’s now about providing opportunities for some of the other younger players that haven’t had an opportunity yet. We haven’t shied away from providing those opportunities to young players. And we won’t change that.”

Carl Veart on the return of Harry Van der Saag:

“Harry’s been in full training now for three or four weeks. He’s had a couple of runs with the internal youth games. We’ll get past this week and then I’d say Harry will be available for selection. That’s a positive for us.”

Carl Veart on Alexandar Popović’s potential international move:

“It’s something that the club is working through at the moment. There’s an opportunity for Alex to move overseas. We’re still sorting through things. We hope it all works out for him. We’ve put a lot of time and development in Alex and it’s good to see that paying off.”

Carl Veart on being included in the Adelaide United 20 Year Team:

“It’s an honour and I thank the supports. They must have very long memories if they are able to remember what I did a long time ago!”
