Adelaide United head coach Carl Veart reflected on the Red’s historic 4-0 victory over Central Coast Mariners in Gosford, marking their first win at the venue in five years. Veart praised his side’s performance as they remain undefeated this season. Here’s what Veart had to say:
On the win against Central Coast:
“Any win against Central Coast is hard work. To come here and win the way that we did, and keep a clean sheet while scoring some good goals, I’m very pleased with the playing group. They put a lot of effort into the game tonight, and you have to when you play against Central Coast.”
On the clean sheet and scoring four goals:
“It’s great that we’ve kept a clean sheet. I think, you know, the way we go about our game, it’s about scoring goals. So I’m very happy with that. This season, we’ve had opportunities to score goals and kill games off, but we haven’t always taken those chances. Tonight, the group took their opportunities and killed the game off. The clean sheet is a bonus.”
On being undefeated and one point off the lead:
“It’s still early days. The positive side is that we’ve shown improvement in every game, and that’s what we’re striving for—keeping on improving, pushing forward. It’s another big tick for us tonight, the way we went about it. To come away with a 4-0 win against Central Coast, I don’t think too many teams will do that here this year.”
On Archie Goodman’s performance:
“Archie has been outstanding for us. We went quite hard to bring him across to the club. He’s a great young striker that plays the way we want our striker to play—his work rate is exceptional. His effort to get into the box and score goals, his desperation, it’s excellent. He’s been working hard to get his body in good condition to play back-to-back games. Tonight was his second start in a row, and he’s getting stronger. We’re building him up week by week, and I think he’ll be very important for us this season.”
On how much better the team can get as the season progresses:
“Winning games brings confidence, and when you’re on a roll, you keep improving and build belief. That’s what it’s about—striving to improve. We’ll enjoy the victory tonight, have a good recovery, and look forward to playing at home next Friday night.”
On Isaías breaking the club’s A-League appearance record:
“Most definitely, Isaías is an ideal professional. He sets a great example for our young players and has been a great servant for the club. I keep telling him he’s still got a couple of years left in him. Tonight, he played almost 90 minutes in midfield, his first start there for a while, and he looked like the player we first brought to the club. Not much has changed, which is a great credit to him.”
