Fiona Worts and Craig Goodwin have been named Adelaide United’s most valuable players for their respective teams at the Club’s annual Alagich Vidmar Awards on Sunday night.
This year’s edition, presented by Oscar Hunt and NW Group, was held at Plant 4 Bowden, commemorating the Liberty A-League and Isuzu UTE A-League 2021/22 seasons.
Worts secured the Dianne Alagich Medal for a truly phenomenal campaign, particularly from a goal-scoring perspective, as she also clinched the Golden Boot not only for the Reds but the entire competition.
In her second season with the Club, the English forward scored 13 goals in 14 regular season matches, and alongside Chelsie Dawber became the first player to reach double figures in a single campaign.
Worts, 26, was also voted Players’ Player by her teammates and collected the RAA Members’ A-League Women Player of the Year.
Meanwhile, for the second time in his Reds career, Craig Goodwin was bestowed the Aurelio Vidmar Medal after an extremely consistent season.
The 30-year-old previously won the prestigious accolade in 2016 and becomes the fourth player to have won the award at least twice following Eugene Galeković (2), Cássio (2), and Isaías (4).
Goodwin secured the Golden Boot with nine league goals and broke Bruce Djite’s record tally in the process to become the Club’s all-time top-scorer.
The winger was also voted Players’ Player and awarded the RAA Members’ A-League Men Player of the Year.
The Remo Paris Club Person of the Year went to Partnerships Manager, Fabrizio Petrone for epitomising the Club’s cultural values, going above and beyond to help his colleagues without any hesitation.
Nanako Sasaki collected the A-League Women Rising Star in her debut season in the Liberty A-League, making a seamless transition from the local Women’s National Premier League. The 23-year-old midfielder registered two goals and two assists in 14 matches.
Bernardo, 18, and Alexandar Popović, 19, received the A-League Men Rising Star for fantastic campaigns.
Winger, Bernardo, scored two goals in 20 league appearances, while Popović had been superb since bursting onto the scene, starting in six of his seven regular season appearances at centre-back.
The Youth Player of the Year was accorded to Ethan Alagich for his strong performances in the National Premier League South Australia.
The Adelaide United Moment of the Year, voted by the fans, was ‘Veart Time’ for the Reds’ thrilling 3-2 comeback win over Sydney FC, courtesy of late goals from George Blackwood and Craig Goodwin.
Fiona Worts and Craig Goodwin also both secured the Red Army Player of the Year awards to complete their respective stellar campaigns.
