Fiona Worts says Adelaide United committed too many mistakes in the first-half in its 5-1 loss to reigning champions Melbourne Victory.
The goal-scorer for the Reds believed although they improved following the interval the damage was already done at AAMI Park on Sunday.
“I think we made a lot less mistakes in the second-half,” she told 10 Bold in a post-match interview.
“I think too many mistakes in the first-half cost us goals and it was a bit far to come back from.”
Worts was unquestionably Adelaide’s best player on the park and after coming so close on a number of previous occasions scored from close range on 65 minutes.
Chelsie Dawber was tackled and the ball fell to the 25-year-old, who steered her finish home.
Worts said they perhaps played with too much apprehension in the first-half.
“I think we made a sub at half-time,” she suggested.
“I don’t know maybe that changed things, but I think we had to just come out with a bit more heart, a bit more fight.
“We probably had a few too many nerves in the first-half and maybe we settled down a bit by the second-half.”
The Reds will need to bounce back against Canberra United at home next weekend and get their season back on track.
